About CFS

The Chiltern Film Society runs a season of 15 international independent films, shown on selected Wednesdays, from September to June, at The Elgiva Theatre in Chesham, Buckinghamshire.

CFS has always been run by a committee of volunteers and was founded in 1969 – as the Amersham and Chesham Film Society, showing the films at the White Hill Centre in Chesham. In 1993, there was a name change: to The Chiltern Film Club.

The Elgiva Theatre opened its new premises in 1998 and the Club began screening films there.

As the films themselves (along with the Elgiva) moved into the digital era, we relaunched and became the Chiltern Film Society. We are proud to say that our 2023–2024 Season is our 55th and we are still growing!

CFS Members receive programme notes and an email requesting feedback after each screening. This forms our Members’ Rating for each film. Plus, members now and again receive discounted offers from the Elgiva for other events and film screenings.

Our programme of films are booked and shown by the Elgiva as part of their public screenings, with guaranteed admission for CFS members for the 1.30pm or 8pm showings. Non-members may attend, but at the full theatre price, depending on availability. For non-member ticket enquiries please contact the Elgiva direct by calling their box office on 01494 582900 or going on their website. The Elgiva has a Hearing Loop and is Fully Access-Friendly. Its address is: St Mary’s Way, Chesham HP5 1HR.
