About us

The society was founded in 1969 as Amersham & Chesham Film Society. It was originally based at the White Hill Centre and later at the Elgiva Theatre, Chesham.

Facilities

In 1999 the Society moved to the Town's new Elgiva, a venue which offers excellent facilities, including comfortable, tiered seating, the latest digital sound system, cinemascope screen and spacious lounge foyer with licensed bar.

Name change

As our membership has broadened we became Chiltern Film Society with the aim of providing a showcase for world cinema, and  bringing to everyone in the Chiltern area the opportunity to see the best of international films. Although independently run by our members, we work closely in partnership with the management and staff of the Elgiva.

43rd Season

Now in our 43rd Season, we are offering a wide-ranging programme of 15 films, from a number of countries such as France, UK, Italy, Argentina, Chile, Mexico and Cameroon, as well as the USA.  This year, for the first time in many years, we are showing a Classic re-release, Ernst Lubitsch's 1940 comedy, The Shop Around the Corner.
